Air Guitars, Air Drums!
I don't know how to play guitar like them, but I can act well. And yes! I can experience that emotion of playing it on stage thrashing myself.
Air Guitar! Almost every one of us has played it once. But what are air guitars? For those uninitiated, it is an imaginary guitar that a person pretends to play as if it were an actual guitar. And air guitaring is the act of playing an air guitar, usually in such a way that the person appears to be playing a solo. Imagine! The right hand holding an invisible guitar pic plucking, the left hand sliding on imaginary strings, and the body swaying, thrashing to the heavy metal music being played in the background. And it’s nice to see, that I am not the only one of one of the few doing it.
I admit I've been insane doing it at some weird times - when I'm crossing the road, during the lecture, when I'm with my friends and there's a song running in my head. But I never knew 'Air-Guitaring' was so popular. Few minutes back I was reading TOI, and I was surprised to check the news on the 'Air-Guitar World Championship' organized at Oulu, Finland. Good to see that it wasn't a small but a world-class event featuring participants from different parts of the world - The Netherlands, France, Japan, Australia, Finland. No doubt, its a great event for poor souls like me who never had a good chance to learn guitar, but who really live the rock and heavy metal dream. I wish I was there to show my air guitar skills. :D

And it isn't just the air guitar that one can play this way. You've got the drums too. Air Drums! Drumming in the air, the act of drumming imaginary drums. I can't help it, I do this so many times a day - Drumming the desk while the lecture is on, and when there's so such platform as desk you have the air anyway. But I'm not sure whether there's some similar world-class event that covers air drumming as well. Also, there exist air-keyboards.
I've finally been able to rip the DVD (fortunately clear) that came along with the St. Anger CD. The DVD features Metallica rehearsing for the 11 songs in the album, and it’s a kick ass DVD! St. Anger is a must buy. Sad that the album features no solos but yeah, the heavy and exploding riffs make it sound damn well. No wonder why they got a Grammy for the same in the year 2003.
Oh! And there's good news for the residents of Mumbai, and those living near by. The Mumbai's iconic festival 'I-Rock' is finalized and so are the bands. Here's a request if you're into rock and you're free on September 3 and 4. Make sure you're there at The Gateway on September 3 and 4. The show starts at 6:30 PM and tickets are available at Rhythm House (Kala Ghoda) and Hiro Music (Hill Road, Bandra). Help them make this event a big success. The bands featured - Pretorika, Sledge, Zero, Helga's Funk Castle, Vertigo, etc. Sledge and Prestorika are two of the many Indian bands I'm dying to witness play them live. Sledge is well known for its 'Selpultura' covers, and Prestorika! They were the winners of Rock Idols last year. Poor me! I'm still unlucky when it comes to such mega events. But make sure, you're there. :)
Rock On!

LOL! This post reminds me of a mock gig we had done in college days complete with stryofoam guitars and make up.
The song we were playin was Metallicas Enter Sandman. My "guitar" never survived the headbanging and broke in 2 midway during the show. What followed was a Nirvana style wreckage.....smashing guitars.....the works.
The audience loved it.....the professors stared astonished and we had the time of our lives.
Great post......took me back awhile
