The Godfather : A Masterpiece

Aloha!

"Don Vito Corleone was a man to whom everybody came for help, and never were they disappointed. He made no empty promises, nor the craven excuse that his hands were tied by more powerful forces in the world than himself. It was not necessary that he be your friend, it was not even important that you had no means with which to repay him. Only one thing was required. That you, you yourself, proclaim your friendship. And then, now matter how poor or powerless the supplicant, Don Corleone would take that man's troubles to his heart. And he would let nothing stand in the way to a solution of that man's woe. His reward? Friendship, the respectful title of "Don," and sometimes the more affectionate salutation of "Godfather."

The Godfather, written by Mario Puzo is certainly a masterpiece. It shows how really important the contacts are, how important friendship is, be it the world of business or the normal life you and I live, how important favors are, and how equally important it is to oblige them. There were numerous quotes which were really impressive and listing all of them here would make this post too long, but its worth mentioning a few:

"Many young men started down a false path to their true destiny. Time and fortune usually set them right."

"Every man has one destiny."

"Friendship is everything. Friendship is more than talent. It is more than government. It is almost equal of a family. Never forget that. If you had built up a wall of friendships, you wouldn’t have to ask me to help."

"Behind every fortune there is a crime." - Balzac

"I'll make him an offer he can't refuse."

"I'll reason with him."

"Don't overestimate the power of forgiveness."

"Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer."

"If anything is certain in this world, if history has taught us anything, its that you can kill anyone."

"Don’t hate your enemies.. it affects your judgment."

"Revenge is a dish that tastes best when it is cold."

"Lawyers can steal more money with a briefcase than a thousand men with guns and masks."

The one being "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse" has become a cliché. And strange that Puzo always claimed that he had never met a gangster in his life before the book appeared. In all, Godfather was a great book. I'm looking forward to see the movie now.

I completed this book two days back, and then I brought "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown and that's what I've been reading since two days. It’s a damn interesting murder mystery, that traps you under suspense after the very first page and I'm yet to recover from the same.

CSC visited our college day before yesterday for the campus recruitment and the event was nicely organized. I wasn't well, so I decided to leave after helping the delegates till the written tests. While I was returning home I witnessed a fatal accident. I call it this way because the conductor of our bus told us that the guy died on spot when he went to check the guy at the accident spot few meters away from where the bus halted. I hope the news wasn't true. It wasn't all guy's fault. Some car hit his scooter from the back, and there was a lady driving the car. The guy bounced off the scooter in front and his neck seemed to crash with the concrete road. If he had a helmet over his head (which isn't compulsory here in Indore, like in other metros) it wouldn't have happened this way. Make helmets mandatory for two-wheeler vehicles, this would help decrease the injuries caused by such mishaps. This is the second big accident I witnessed while doing a regular up-down to college.

I have classes starting for CAT preparation from tomorrow. A hectic schedule is just about to begin again.

Adios!

Fictional Reality.
