Another day.. Another post!

Aloha!

Another day, another post. Today was just as any other day. I spent time reading the newspaper and I saw a really nice article that dealt with HRs and the appraisal systems. There was a question an employee asked to his boss and which was kinda like:

"I'm an employee in this s/w firm since 3 years and I've worked harder, every night, spent most of the days working for extra hours and completing everything within timeframe as compared to those I have around me working for the same company. But I've got no good appraisals, no good rewards for all the hard work I've put through."

And the analysis revealed that the industry now believes in "smart work" rather than "hard work". It believes in "what an individual brings to the company" and not the hard work he puts through (in case that brings no good to company). Very true!

There was something funny I read about delhites two-three days back and I remember it now, worth discussing! Delhites have this tendency of being so confident about telling the way to people who seem to have lost around with some address in their hand. They will so confidently tell "Go this way, straight, the turn right, and then you'll see the square and there you go!" and if you follow the same you ultimately end up being far from the place you wanted to reach to. Its not their (delhites') fault that they seem to be so confident about they know every way to every place, its about the people visiting that place that makes them think Yes! He/she is the right person I'm seeking an address advice from - right? (or left?). No offence meant Delhi people, but this was what a national newspaper had in its edit page that took my attention. Meanwhile, when I last visited Delhi (in 2002) for giving DCE entrance exams, I didn't experienced any such problems (may be because, I remember when we lost our way, we always sought address-advice from the traffic policeman there, and they seemed polite and we didn't seem to deviate from the correct path). In case you're the one who's to visit Delhi, have no knowledge about addresses and god-forbid you're lost then better seek an advice from "dhobiwalas" or such people because they seem to know people by their cars, residences rather than "Sharma ji", "Verma ji".

The rest of the day was "The Godfather". Its an interesting story, and most of you reading this blog entry must have read it once because its a famous book. I somehow managed to complete the Book III part.

I need to leave early for Indore tomorrow, to register myself for the CAT batch at PT. Its like you'd never have time even when the stage you're in right now is called "vacations". When you're at home you may get a call to work for TnP, when you're free of the same you have another work ready, and since the classes start from 18th, I don't see myself getting free in coming 6 months. What about the plans I promised my college in the last post?

Scrolling back up in this editor, it seems I've written enough crap for today [also I'm disappointed for some reason (Orkut?)], so I should better leave.

Adios!

Harpreet.
