Waterloo? But who's gonna win?

Waterloo - "A final crushing defeat", but which battle am I talking about?

Weird but the battle is with the last electronics subject named "Control Systems". I wonder why there is a need of electronics subject when a student enrolled in the "Computer Science and Engineering" (CSE) course is in his III Year - Semester B. But again since the course is revised by college authorities every year, there must be a need (a need to pester students who love computers?). Personally, electronics subjects have been nagging me since the very first year. I remember "Basic Electronics" was the one that ignited the feud. "Basic Electronics" was an ok kinda subject, and we didn’t took this feud at heart because the time we entered the college, we had already spent time solving circuits and we thought it would be the first and last electronics subject we’d be studying (at least I thought so). But we were (at least I was) wrong. Passing this first battle we were bestowed to two new subjects in II year - named "Digital Electronics" and "Microprocessors and ALP". And we weren’t (at least I wasn’t) furious because these subjects were close to computers, and the peripherals used the same logic, and so studying these two was the only fun I had with the electronics subjects spree. And like in games they keep lucifers, devils and daemons for the final fight, the programmers of our game (the curriculum designers) made sure the ‘curriculum’ game was just a simulation of what the computer games are. In the III Year we were presented to the daemons - "Digital Communication Engineering" (DCE) and "Control Systems". And since I passed DCE last semester (I don’t feel a need to tell the marks) the only battle left now is with "Control Systems". I checked the course to make sure if we have more electronics subjects in the coming year, and not surprisingly, after three years in this slam dance, they’ve let us free (and I have no good words to thank them, the blog says it all). Lastly, I have a feeling that I’ll be able to pass this final battle which was worse than the last one - DCE. And if you ask me for a reason to support my judgment, I have none.

It’s been 3 years in this very college and I see my seniors passing out. An year ahead, it’s our turn. For my case I believe the college has given me everything I thought about when I took my first step in its campus. The environment is congenial, teachers encourage you (at least I’ve felt so, or else I wouldn’t have had so many of my projects deployed), so do seniors. Thank you IET-DAVV (Institute of Engineering and Technology, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidalaya in case you’re wondering what this abbreviation meant).

And since you’ve done more than enough for a student like me (*bows*) who stepped in your environment 3 years back with zero I.Q. about computers, I have a plan for you so that we always have you in our memories after we pass out. Daunted? No! Don’t get scared. Since the next year is the last year left outta our college life, I personally believe there is a need of outings (and mass bunks IF ANY is needed for the same) because if we don’t enjoy the final year this way, we won’t have any precious moments to remember about our college life. In case you’re someone who’s my classmate reading this blog entry, make sure you post a comment. And IET-DAVV, sweetheart, we’ll make sure the outings don’t affect the class schedule.

I couldn’t post a blog entry for yesterday because I was at college for work at TnP cell. The bus in the morning seemed overcrowded. By the time I returned I was late, and then I had to take the relatives to the ‘park area’ nearby where you get the famous junk food (pani-puri, bhel and stuff). And then by the time I returned from the same, it was just too late and tired I was, so the only way was to catch up with bed and some Z'ss.

PS: Reading this entry might make you think like I’m against the one who sets the curriculum. No! I’m pretty happy with the course and the ones who set it because all colleges around seem to have the same curriculum for the CSE branch and that proves, setting such course seriously has some advantage for we students. And yes!
I’m proud to be an IETian.

C ya!

Harpreet.
